I like music.
Music is great. Lists are great. Here are some of my music highlights, from new finds (new to me, thay can be old as hell), to my true treasures, to just some real bangers.
Some (for me) recent finds here at the top, newest first. Songs, artists, albums all mixed. I'll try to keep it updated (latest 6 Oct):
La Luz (NEW!)
I'm a sucker for dreamy/psychedelic stuff where you feel like you're floating in the music. My flatmate played their latest album and I was like damn who is this this is great?? Now I've also seen them live at a very crowded and hot bar.
Cosmo Sheldrake
Artist who plays around with nature sounds a lot. I like his new album (but the cover art makes me uncomfortable...), and the previous one is also pretty neat. Can't decide if he is kinda hot or kinda strange-looking or both. Is this my next phase?
Only God Was Above Us
Album by Vampire Weekend. Probably my favourite album at the moment, really captures my current vibe.
In Rainbows
Album by Radiohead. When I first listened to it I was like okay this is a bit too intense, but the Dissect podcast sold me on it and now I own it. Probably my favourite album once I get tired of OGWAU.
Now the songs with a special place in my heart, they can make me feel dizzy because they hit so hard. Most are more or less melancholic. I find that I need music the most when I'm feeling low, to let the stereo carry my poor heart for a while. There is some kind of order to them, but I'm not sure what.
Ghost - Mystery skulls
Important note!: With the mystery skulls animated video (the song itself is a bit repetitive on its own)! Probably my first proper favourite song that I really connected to. The feeling is so excruciatingly familiar and when I listen to it I feel less alone and more alone at the same time.
Ruby, Don't Cry - Luca Wilding
A bumble date that later went on to ghost me showed me this. "Mega, oder?" It was indeed mega. I met that guy once but I'm still sore in the heart. The great-music-taste-one that got away...
Want You So Bad - The Vaccines
This is it. This is the hottest song. Why are the other songs by this band so not-like-this-one?
Call It Fate, Call It Karma - The Strokes
This song started my strokes-phase. Also hella hot. Also not totally like the rest of their songs but I love the rest too.
I'll Try Anything Once - The Strokes
This version of You Only Live Once is so beautifully soothing (and also kinda sexy if I'm being honest...) "Okay. One more time"
Nude/Reckoner - Radiohead
So the Dissect podcast season about the Radiohead In Rainbows album. Listen to it. I can't pick my favourite between these two songs.
No Surprises - Radiohead
Don't know if I think the song is really especially great, it's just that I once watched a movie after having brownies, and not being very used to it I was a bit nervous and tense, but every time this song came on with it's looping intro (I think it happened three times in the movie) I got hit with a wave of safety and comfort like "aaahh ::))". I never experienced music like that before.
Capricorn - Vampire Weekend
"I know you're tired of trying, listen clearly, you don't have to try", and the unhinged mechanical screeching melody, and the vibe of the whole album as something you found in a broken subway in a dystopian future that is actually not far from now but somehow when the recent past feels infinately far away. Why isn't everybody talking about this album?!
Do I Wanna Know - Arctic Monkeys
Gotta have this on the list, my entry drug to... having a music taste I guess? My true musical awakening. I don't think I was the only one. Hey, what can I say? I was I teenager and I wondered if I wanted to know, you know? (Turned out there was not much to know, by the way, it was one-sided). I also learned that sometimes the first time you hear your new favourite song, you might think its okay-I-guess-but-like-nothing-super-special. Just give it some time.
För sent for Edelweiss - Håkan Hellström
"du säger att kärleken aldrig var till för dig, att du aldrig känt vinden högt över trädtoppen. Du säger att den delar sig vid kinden och blir hel igen, bakom dig" ... ja okej jag kanske säger det då, precis som alla andra emobarn i landet som känner att Håkan Hellström sjunger till just dom, personligen... Han är bra på detdär, handär Håkan.
It's hard to get around the wind - Alex Turner
Sometimes you just gotta lie down on the floor in a puddle of self-pity and feel the bars wash over like waves.
Woah Woah Woah - Watsky
I really wanted to listen to this song at one point but I held it hostage to force myself to do something I was afraid of doing. Speaking of hostage:
Hostage - Billie Eilish
Has a special place in my soul for reasons. The first song I heard by her, it took some time then she was suddenly everywhere.
Then my favourite bands and artists:
The Strokes
I love The New Abnormal and Comedown Machine, but all albums have bangers. Their webpage is amazing too, look at it
Radiohead
mainly the In Rainbows album, once you have listened to the Dissect podcast
Vampire Weekend
My current phase. The entire Only God Was Above Us album holy shit it has to be my favourite album, and the way it captures the post-pandemic late-stage-capitalism Zeitgeist with Classical and Connect and The Surfer WHY isn't everyone talkning about this ALBUM?!
Before that album I liked the band but you know like as a friend of a friend? I wasn't sure it was MINE, if that makes sense?
Arctic Monkeys
I've left my arctic monkeys phase some time ago, but it was my first favourite band and as one tinder date said, it is my "home" when it comes to music. It's where I grew up. The AM album of course, but after that they got too old and sleazy.
The Last Shadow Puppets
If arctic monkeys is my home, then TLSP is just across the street.
Alex Turner
The Submarine album. I haven't left my neighborhood yet.
Alexandra Savior
Ooh look at me Alex Turner only produced this one! Sad she doesn't seem to be super active anymore?
Listen to Cupid, Girlie, Mirage and The Archer.
Håkan Hellström
Vad ska jag säga. Han och Veronica Maggio är ju kung och drottning. Vart annars ska man vända sig när hjärtat brister fast det också är lite feststämning?
Cosmo Sheldrake
I just learned about this guy!
La Luz (NEW!)
I could have given the singer a hairband when she asked the crowd for one but I missed my shot...
Finally, let's get a bit more cheerful, shall we? Here are some mixed absolute bangers that I wish would play at all parties I go to. No super unique picks, no elaborations, and in no particular order:
Bad Water - AronChumpa, J & The People
Think about things - Daði Freyr
Freaks - Timmy Trumpet
BBAAA badapapapapa pa papapa pa PAAA
Mister cool - Snook
Electric Feel - MGMT
I said ooh girl
Paint The Town Red - Doja Cat
Hey Ya! - Outcast
Machu Picchu - The Strokes
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
